Derek Jeter用再見安打向洋基主場說再見，激動難眠，跟紅襪最後三連戰的第一場，沒有先發。不過，後面兩戰，Jeter會上場，給買票球迷一個交代。

「我不知道今晚能否上場，也不確定是不是想打這一戰。」宣稱前一晚只睡了幾個小時的Jeter說。

Jeter還說，如果最後這三場比賽，不是在紅襪主場進行，那麼他也許根本不會上場。能在芬威球場告別球員生涯，對Jeter而言，是第二志願。

「紅襪是可敬的世仇，我一直很尊敬紅襪球迷。」Jeter說。他雖然會上場，但不會擔任游擊手，而是以DH身份登場，因為他要把「游擊區最後一戰」，保留在洋基主場。

身為洋基球員，卻在紅襪隊家裡打最後一戰，Jeter收到的不是噓聲跟謾罵，而是波士頓球迷溫馨的祝福。

「有位紅襪球迷向我說：『我討厭洋基，但我尊敬你』，」Jeter說，「當你走過球場，球迷都在歡呼，感覺有點不同。」

「1999年明星賽在這裡進行，司機搞錯入口，我們得下來走一段，當時我感覺那些波士頓球迷，好像要宰了我們。像這樣的轉變，實在有趣。」
