亞洲職棒大賽今年重新由中華職棒主辦，中職官方日前接獲大陸棒協通知，確定不派隊來台；中職臨時決定邀請歐洲棒球聯賽冠軍、義大利職棒聯盟所屬的波隆那隊，已獲對方同意。

亞職大賽開打7屆，這是義大利首次參加；中職表示，由於是我方邀請，因此比賽名稱不會改變，仍叫亞職大賽。

亞職大賽2005年開打，前4屆比賽在日本東京開打，大陸年年派隊參加；這項大賽因經費問題停辦兩年後，前年由中職接手，大陸首次缺席，改由澳洲伯斯熱火隊參加，仍維持4隊規模。

去年南韓職棒首次主辦亞職大賽，隊數增至6隊，大陸再度派出明星隊到釜山參賽，地主南韓派出兩隊，另三隊仍是中職、日本、澳洲冠軍隊。

中職今年第2次主辦比賽，比照去年亞職大賽，仍是6隊規模，沒想到大陸突然決定缺席，23日來函通知中職，讓整個計畫生變。

義大利取代大陸參賽，本屆賽事11月15日在台中洲際球場開打，中職將派打進總冠軍賽的兩隊參賽，加上日本、南韓、澳洲，避免隊數縮減的命運。
