戰績居國聯中區王座的紅雀隊，3連敗後13日迎戰洛磯隊一掃陰霾，靠著哈勒戴(Matt Holliday)首局轟出的深遠3分砲奠定勝基，終場以5比1止敗，而陣中王牌先發韋恩萊特(Adam Wainwright)也收下本季第18勝，並列聯盟勝投王。

「能敲這樣的全壘打真的挺有趣的，我也盡己所能揮擊這球。」首局擔任第3棒的哈勒戴，在2人在壘無人出局時，一棒將球轟上左外野上方看台，估計距離將近467英呎(約142.34公尺)，也助球隊早早取得3比0領先。

先發主投韋恩萊特也繳出一貫水準；此役主投8局被敲6安僅失1分，另外飆8K沒有保送，成功拿下本季第18勝，勝投數追平道奇克蕭(Clayton Kershaw)、紅人隊奎多(Johnny Cueto)以及13日同樣帶領巨人奪勝的左投邦格納(Madison Bumgarner)。

韋恩萊特說道，「當我投球，我想盡辦法取得好球數，並相信球隊的防守。」止住近日3連敗後，他也相當有信心地表示，「當這些事情都做到的時候，一切就會開始好轉。」

贏得與洛磯3連戰首役的紅雀，也與國聯中區第2海盜拉開2.5場勝差，而紅雀面對洛磯也擁有不錯戰績，近28場拿下20勝。
