在大聯盟道奇的球衣背號56號，其實並是郭泓志自己挑的，是球團給的。郭董說：「我在美國沒辦法選擇，我記得第一年剛去時是68號，之後就是56號；不過一直到08年以前，若是有其他資深球員入隊要這號碼，我還是必須讓出來，直到08年後才真正屬於我。」
回國加盟統一獅，獅隊56號原本是劉芙豪，又是學長，所以郭董只要求空的號碼就行，也才會穿「00」號，但他開玩笑說：「如果是學弟，那我就要拿來穿。」(圖╱資料照片．文╱賴德剛)
