能高團歷史／林桂興，也創辦音樂研究會

林桂興於1899年出生於台東市，1919年進入花蓮港賀田組，在艀船部任職，1921年籌組高砂棒球隊，1923年9月高砂棒球隊改名為「能高團」，正式成立。

1925年6月，能高團遠征日本，四勝四敗一和，1932年林桂興擔任花蓮港保甲壯丁團長，1939年8月他成立花蓮港近海運海株式會社擔任社長，1941年11月任花蓮港市議會議員，1943年2月成立花蓮港音樂研究會，擔任創辦人。

1946年3月林桂興擔任花蓮市第一屆市民代表，1947年2月二二八事件爆發，同年4月遭構陷入獄，經家人多方營救出獄；同年9月，林桂興悲憤之餘，在柴房自殺身亡，得年48歲。
