簽約金差十倍 王維中一念之間

一念之間，王維中為台灣球員寫下難得的大聯盟歷史紀錄。

2011年7月，王維中開心到匹茲堡，準備體驗新生活，詎料竟未通過海盜隊體檢，左手肘韌帶判斷已斷了9成，海盜隊馬上取消合約，夢想一夕變樣。

不僅35萬美元（1050萬台幣）簽約金瞬間化為烏有，王維中恍如從天堂跌落地獄，極度沮喪。當時海盜告訴他，若願意留下來，可以安排開刀，協助他復健再出發。

王維中六神無主，失望透頂，當時陪伴在他身邊的台灣球探阿猴和經紀人，不斷安慰、鼓勵他；王維中後來打電話回台灣給媽媽，母子討論後，決定與其返台面對不可知的未來，不如留美爭一口氣。王維中立刻轉念，放眼未來，同意海盜的建議、重新簽約，但簽約金只剩5萬美元（150萬台幣）。

王維中很快完成湯米約翰手術，隨即在海盜安排下，於小聯盟耐心復健。這次雖然有如中樂透般的命運安排，在釀酒人圓夢，但當年若沒有海盜的照顧，王維中可能受不了打擊，一蹶不振。
