響尾蛇拒絕 給禁藥球員合約

佩羅塔(Jhonny Peralta)因用藥遭禁賽後，季末又和紅雀簽下4年5200萬美元(約15.6億台幣)的大合約，遭到外界批變相鼓勵禁藥，雖然紅雀總經理莫札列克(John Mozeliak)表示不會自命為道德警察，但響尾蛇隊可不這麼認為，堅持不給用藥球員大合約。

日前響尾蛇投手齊格勒(Brad Ziegler)就率先在推特(Twitter)上開砲，「作弊球員還得花錢買，感謝老闆鼓勵使用禁藥。」儘管響尾蛇需要一門左外野大砲，但球團堅持不能破壞乾淨原則，不會提供合約給大砲克魯茲(Nelson Cruz)。

響尾蛇隊合夥人坎崔克(Ken Kendrick)一直以來都痛恨禁藥，對於球隊防止禁藥有著堅定的立場。2006年，坎崔克透過關係打聽到自家投手葛林斯利(Jason Grimsley)有非法禁藥，於是突襲檢查搜到許多非法藥物後，立即開除葛林斯列，也使他的合約作廢。

事實上，響尾蛇前教練威廉斯(Matt Williams)就是米契爾禁藥報告中的一員，只是當時威廉斯已經退下球員身分，也沒有明確用藥證據，並未遭到禁賽，故外媒認為和佩羅塔的例子相比，還是有所區別，響尾蛇隊還是秉持「乾淨」的球風。

禁藥問題一直重創大聯盟形象，也是聯盟極力改善的問題，現在大聯盟已經嚴格落實藥檢制度，只要首次查到將禁賽50場，再犯則100場，第3次就終身禁賽，球員工會也深表贊同，甚至處罰可以再加重。
