根據規定，凡年資滿9個球季，經過聯盟公告，即可申請成為自由球員，球員必須在7個工作日內向聯盟申請後即可生效。
而自由球員若與新球團簽約，新球團須補償原球團，支付球員該年度薪資總額2.5倍作轉隊費；或是支付球員該年度薪資總額1.5倍作轉隊費、並讓出自訂25人名單外的球員1名，但若對提出的球員名單不滿意，新球團則必須再補償該球員年度薪資總額的0.5倍。

而自由球員若到明年1月1日仍未與新球團簽約，則補償條件減半。支付球員該年度薪資總額的1.25倍作轉隊費；或是支付該球員年度薪資總額0.75倍、並讓出自訂25人名單外的球員1名。
但若對提出的球員名單不滿意，新球團則必須再補償該球員年度薪資總額的0.25倍。 (記者楊逸民)
